Radiesse
Radiesse is a type of dermal filler that diminishes the signs of aging by restoring the skin's lost elasticity and volume and stimulating the production of natural collagen. Treatment with Radiesse is clinically proven to provide results that last a year or longer in many patients. Radiesse gives you a fresh, youthful appearance by reducing wrinkles, skin laxity, and facial lines. It is commonly used to treat wrinkles and skin folds around the mouth and nose.
How it Works
Collagen gives your skin volume and elasticity, but as you age, the collagen in your skin breaks down. Radiesse stimulates the production of new collagen, and thus creates long-lasting volume and helps your skin regain a youthful shape. Radiesse adds volume to deep wrinkles and hollow or sagging cheeks, and corrects moderate to severe wrinkles. Radiesse is composed of calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in gel. Over time, the substance is completely broken down by the body.
What to Expect
Treatment with Radiesse is an outpatient procedure that takes up to 15 minutes to perform. Dr. Mulligan will select one or more injection points in each area to be treated. A local anesthetic will be applied to the treatment areas before the injections are made. Radiesse is injected beneath the skin, under the dermis and subcutis layer.
The outcome of treatment with Radiesse looks and feels natural. The results are immediately visible, but the final outcome won't be evident for at least a week. The results can last up to two years, but touch ups may be required throughout this time.
There may be some swelling after the procedure, but it will subside within 24 to 36 hours. Other potential side effects of treatment with Radiesse include bruising and discomfort. A pain medication may be subscribed to manage discomfort. There is minimal risk of allergic reaction associated with the procedure since Radiesse is comprised of a substance that naturally occurs in the body. You may resume normal daily activities immediately after the procedure, but you should avoid direct sunlight exposure.
Am I a Candidate
Millions of people around the world have undergone treatment with Radiesse, and Radiesse patients tend to be more satisfied with the results of the procedure than patients treated with any other dermal filler. Candidates for treatment with Radiesse are those who show obvious signs of aging and are typically between the ages of 35 and 60. As you age and your condition changes, other treatments may become necessary. For severe signs of aging, surgical procedures may be more appropriate.
