Dysport
Dysport is one of the latest anti-aging treatments to follow in the footsteps of proven procedures like Botox. Like Botox, Dysport uses an injectable form of botulinum toxin Type A to relax facial muscles that lead to fine lines and wrinkles. The result is skin that is smoother and wrinkle-free.
Dysport is often preferred over Botox because the effects are seen more quickly and the results typically last longer. Dysport can be used on a variety of aging concerns, including:
- Vertical lines between the eyebrows
- Crow's feet around the eyes
- Horizontal forehead creases
Dysport generally works better on "dynamic" wrinkles, which are the lines that appear on your face when you smile or frown. It is not usually recommended for "static" lines and wrinkles that are present on the face at all times.
How it Works
Dysport is administered directly to the treatment site via injection. The solution relaxes the muscles in the immediate area, resulting in a significant reduction of the appearance of wrinkles. Treatments usually take about 10 minutes to complete, and patients may return to normal activities right away. While anesthesia is not used for Dysport treatments, some doctors numb the area first with an anesthetic cream or cold pack to enhance patient comfort.
After the Procedure
Patients are allowed to resume regular activities directly after Dysport treatments, although strenuous physical exercise is discouraged for the first 24 hours. Side effects are rare and may include mild bruising, soreness, slight headache, swelling or eyelid drooping.
The Results
Results vary between patients, but most see a reduction of muscle activity within one to two days. Results may last up to six months. At this time, results will begin to fade and a new treatment will be needed to maintain the desired results.
